Located on the banks of the Lake Jozini, Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa is well-known for its superb Tiger fishing opportunities. From the novice fisherman to the expert anglers fishing with a fly, reeling in your first Tiger fish will certainly get your adrenalin flowing. Bring our own boat or hire one from the lodge with a professional fishing guide.
Boat Cruise
At this accommodation near Lake Jozini, our daily cruises are always a crowd pleaser. Our large cruise boats create a magnificent platform for sundowners on sunset cruises across the lake. The cruise caters for up to 40 people, and a popular option for families, corporates, tour groups and wedding parties.
HIKING AND BIRDING TRAILS
There are numerous self-guided walking trails to enjoy near this Jozini Lake lodge. If you are a keen birder, you can opt to go with a qualified guide who will help you learn more about the local birdlife. There are also various species of antelope to be seen, along with plenty of crocodiles and hippos wallowing along the shores of the lake.
GAME VIEWING
The pace of life at Lake Jozini is unhurried and relaxed, where one can focus on enjoying the rich diversity of game, birdlife and vegetation found in the area. Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa is surrounded by a host of private and public game reserves including Imfolozi Hluhluwe, Mkuze and Ndumo Game Reserves, and is a 1-hour drive from Sodwana Bay. Pongolo Game Reserve on the Eastern shore is home to 4 of the Big 5, 350 species of bird life, crocodiles and hippos.
Border Cave
Border Cave has been occupied by humans, virtually continuously, for about 190 000 years and is one of only a few archaeological sites in the world with a complete stratigraphic record. More than a million artefacts have been excavated from the site including the Lebombo Bone, dated to 35 000 BC making it the oldest known artefact linked to the basic mathematical activity of counting.
Sodwana Bay
Rated as one of the ten best diving sites in the world, Sodwana offers something for the more adventuresome. Activities such as diving, snorkelling, quad biking and horse riding can be arranged. In season, turtle watching at night is also available. Sodwana is about an hour and a half's drive from Mkuze if you need to stay on tar or about an hour on a much shorter dirt road.
Muzi Pans
Muzi Pan is a 15km stretch of water within the greater St. Lucia Wetland Park forming a natural boundary between the park and the KwaJobe Tribal Land. The southern end of the pan borders Mkuze Game Reserve. Both shores of the pan boast a wide variety of bird species (The possibility to add a Pel's Fishing Owl to your list). The pan is a base for a wide variety of game, as well as the numerous resident hippo, and offers a magnificent nature experience either on a canoe or guided walk.
Ilala Weavers Market
Ilala Weavers Market is situated 65km, approximately a 50-minute drive from Nibela Lodge, and hosts a wide range of local crafts and curios. The market is one of our favourite St Lucia South Africa things to do. Browse through beautifully hand-woven baskets, traditional Zulu jewellery and trinkets which make the best gifts for friends and family back home. Behind the curio shop is a museum dedicated to the history of this ancient art, so you can get a better idea of the stories behind the treasures you go home with.
Tembe Elephant Park & Ndumu Game Reserve
Before being proclaimed as a Park in 1981, elephants roamed freely in this area. Tembe offers a Big 5 experience and is accessible by tar road but you need a 4x4 to drive in the park or one can arrange for game drives. The Ndumu Game Reserve is one of the most interesting and most attractive in South Africa. It lies on the flood plain of the Pongola River, an expanse of wetland with tropical and subtropical habitats.
St. Lucia
A bit further afar, is the town of St Lucia. Located 160km, or a 2-hour drive including dirt roads from Nibela Lodge, this well-known KwaZulu Natal destination is a tourist hub. Its breath-taking beaches, shops and restaurants are some of its main attractions, not to mention the opportunity to see turtles and whales on one of the many boating tours offered. For a day of sand, sun and see, St Lucia is on of the best things to do St Lucia South Africa!
Kosi Bay
Kosi Bay, near the Mozambique border in the north, has a system of four lakes that run parallel to the sea for 18km. For those with a 4x4 visit the Kosi river mouth for a beach experience bar none.
