Come away with me - red heart

Come away with me

We’re a starry-eyed bunch here at Dream Hotels & Resorts, and with Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we’re looking forward to welcoming couples through our doors.

While chocolates and flowers are always appreciated, chances are, the ‘thing’ your partner most desires this Valentine’s Day, is spending quality time with you somewhere new.

But where to whisk them away?

From sunset cruises to lakeside dinners under the stars, here are our top recommendations from across the country:

A weekend in the wilderness

Where: Finfoot Lake Reserve, North West Province

Finfoot Lake Reserve is everything you could want in a romantic weekend or week-long break. Close to Johannesburg (a 90-minute drive), that much-needed wilderness escape with your sweetheart is within easy reach. Try a canoe trip or a Segway safari, or simply soak up the natural splendor on a sunset barge excursion.

Dinner à deux

Where: Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa, Western Cape

Looking for something elegant and low-key this Valentine’s Day? You can’t go wrong with a few nights at Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa in Franschhoek. Aside from those magnificent mountain vistas, the on-site Le Verger restaurant will quickly capture your heart with its glass conservatory design and flavourful cuisine prepared with love by Chef Kyle.

Lakeside lovin’

Where: Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa, KwaZulu-Natal

If we’re talking romantic accommodation in KZN, you can’t do much better than Jozini Tiger Lodge & Spa. Settled on the edge of Lake Jozini, it ticks all the right boxes for couples this Valentine’s Day. Just imagine it: luxury treatments at the private spa, sunset barge cruises and pre-dinner cocktails near the outdoor boma.

Romance and resort life

Where: Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort, Western Cape

There’s no better place to watch an African sunset than Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort. Overlooking the charming town of Citrusdal, Piekenierskloof delivers uninterrupted views of the spectacular Cederberg, along with genuine country hospitality. Aside from endless opportunities for pool lounging, there is plenty to do here, including hiking, mountain biking, and tea and wine tasting just across the road.

Magic in the mountains

Where: Little Switzerland Resort, KwaZulu-Natal

‘The Berg’, as we love and know it, is a real beauty with towering mountains and meandering roadways brimming with isiZulu villages, padstals, and coffee shops. Of course, the best place to bed down is the Alpine-style Little Switzerland Resort, with its charming self-catering chalets, indoor log fires, and a stable filled with horses and ponies. As a casual lunch date idea, head to The Draken’s Burger Diner, located at the entrance.
